Does My Heart Belong To The High Street?

Apologies, my Glittery friends, after a fair few weeks of work experience at two weekly fashion magazines, and a weekend of chocolate, I have very naughtily neglected this blog. However being surrounded by the four walls of two high street fashion cupboards the last two months has made me rediscover why I love the high street.

Yes, the aim of this blog is to appreciate designers who are a little too out there for me, but the amount of lovely clothes I have unpacked, hung up, moved to a shoot, repositioned on a celebrity, packed up again and then sent them back to their owner is incredible. I felt a small dedication rather appropriate.

The high street is perfect for fleeting trends. For example, the lace trend, yes it may be around for a while, but with this business you never know. A black and white lace jacket even fooled the editor of one magazine, as it was actually well made and very stylish, despite being from Primark.

My hands have passed goodies from River Island, Topshop, Lipsy, Rare, New Look, Marks and Spencer, Next, and whilst all have specific audiences, as it were, there are pieces that will suit all shapes and sizes, and are all bang on trend. The high street takes designer trends and makes them so much more wearable for any shape, size or age. I certainly found a few things I’ve placed on my shopping list for when I have a bit more money!

The only problem with the high street, in my opinion, is when the high street shops produce replica iconic pieces from designers. My personal worst, is any replica of the Chanel 2.55 bag, of which I secretly worship (and am saving up for – screw a mortgage, who needs a house when your phone and make up is safe in a soft quilted beauty with a lock on it?). These replicas can be in any quilted form, and because I covet the Chanel bag so much, I could never bring myself to carry around a direct fake, or anything quilted because of it.

Apart from that, why would anyone not buy from the high street? Yes, designer clothes are beautiful, yes they are very well made, and yes, you have a status when wearing them, but the high street is for the everyday, for those trends which pass us in a flash. Why would you spend six hundred pounds on a trend here for 6 months, when you could spend sixty or less?

Pick your high street wisely, and then it’ll never fail you.

Happy shopping!

Now back to the designers…
